Transforming mental healthcare

Integrative wellness means that we do not simply look at the presenting problem a client enters therapy to address. We instead choose to focus on the whole person. This may include anything from diet and lifestyle to social support and spiritual wellness. A person’s life is meant to be balanced in all areas, and integrative wellness strives to identify where the imbalances may lie to begin addressing root causes of mental health challenges.

Meet Caroline

A little bit about me…

I specialize in helping clients struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma. I particularly love helping those individuals who may be struggling with low self-esteem and self-worth. I enjoy guiding my clients to identify their own strengths and unlock the hidden potential that each of us possesses. I love working with individuals who are ready for change but are in need of some extrinsic motivation and guidance. I primarily focus my work in mind-body therapies such as mindfulness, yoga, and art. I combine the use of movement based therapies with talk therapy to help clients get "unstuck".For those parents who are looking for assistance for their children, I have extensive experience working with all ages, starting as young as 4 years old.

Mind-body practices:

Probably what draws most people to want to work with me is the diverse treatment modalities that I offer to my clients. I am a 200hr Registered Yoga Teacher with a special certification in trauma-informed yoga. I have facilitated individual as well as group yoga classes for many years and have seen the powerful healing that has come from my clients beginning to integrate the practice into their daily routine. I have practiced and taught meditation, and incorporate it as well as mindfulness into almost every treatment plan established. I am a Certified Integrative Mental Health Practitioner (CIMHP), which means I have experience incorporating nutrition and physical wellness into a mental health treatment. I also have a post-baccalaureate certificate in Herbal Studies, and have used herbal medicine with clients as a part of my integrative wellness model.

Connection with nature:

As well as focusing on the mind-body connection, I also believe in the importance of our connection to nature. Most people today struggle with what we call nature-deficit disorder (NDD). This is when we begin to experience an increase in anxiety and/or depression symptoms as a result of being disconnected from our natural environment. I am a Mindfulness-based Ecotherapy facilitator, which helps clients to connect more deeply to their world around them. Through this modality, clients learn how to ground themselves in the present moment while becoming more in tune with their physical surroundings. This might include yoga outdoors, a mindfulness nature walk, or just spending time sitting outside! I am currently enrolled in the Tennessee Naturalist Program, where I am learning more about the local flora and fauna in our beautiful state. The use of animal-assisted therapy (AAT) and equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP) is another large portion of my work with clients who want to reconnect to nature. I am trained in Natural Lifemanship, a form of EAP, and hold a certificate in Animal-assisted Therapy from PESI, Inc. I have worked hands on with animals in a therapeutic setting for the last 4 years, and have found their effect on treatment to be irreplaceable.

Other forms of therapy:

As well as using more holistic methods of therapy, I also possess extensive experience working with cognitive behavioral therapy, which is your traditional talk therapy modality. I specialize in trauma work, and have been trained in eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) since 2020. For parents in need of support with their young children, I also am certified in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), which is used to help correct defiant behaviors and strengthen the bond between parent and child. I also have experience facilitating child-centered play therapy sessions to help address trauma in young children. Art therapy is another passion of mine, and I love tapping into a client’s creative side through a variety of artistic modalities. Finally, the use of sandtray therapy is always a fun experience for children and adults alike!

WOW. That’s a lot of information!

If you’ve read this far and are feeling a bit overwhelmed, that’s to be expected! I do a lot of different forms of therapy because there are A LOT of different people on our planet! Rest assured, however, that we will work together to find the perfect combination of these tools. I am confident that in working together, you can begin to heal yourself from the inside out.
